What Fonts should I use?

No rules?

Perhaps a few suggestions?

  • Always should be legible on web and printer. Keep it simple. Don't distort or confuse message and universal accessibility with fancy artistry.
  • Convey a tone or feeling with fonts, never too large or small. 10 or 12 pt is fine for the web. Large fonts shout and distract.
  • Save bold and special features for headings and important notes - don't mix or overuse.
  • Don't kill the messenger with special non-standard font type styles that the reader-viewer computer does not have - if they don't have a font loaded on their computer, they will never see it. 80% of special fonts are seen in readers computer as standard Courier font?
  • Use images to contain special font graphics and logos to preserve unique font characteristics.
  • Watch background patterns and colors with special fonts and page content - some fonts can not be read.
  • If you use a special font for your logo or images - write the font style name down and save the original file carefully.
  • Color? Have fun - but not too much fun at your viewers expense?
